PEAK (Program for Elementary Age Kids) is the Community Child Care Center of Portsmouth's before and after School program for children in grades 1 through 5. PEAK and is located at the Little Harbour, Dondero and New Franklin schools. PEAK teachers skillfully weave their talents of humor, compassion and creativity with their understanding of child development to offer a variety of social and enrichment activities every day.
PEAK offers enrichment and enhanced educational activities for children, ages 6 to 12 years, while providing a safe environment before and after school. By design, the program allows students to build on their self-esteem, foster positive friendships and experience healthy adult-child interactions and role modeling during times that parents are working, in training or otherwise cannot be present to supervise their youth. Through many opportunities to participate in group activities, children are taught shared responsibilities, appropriate communication strategies, conflict resolution/problem solving, and tolerance. The inclusion project exposes children to diversity among their age group while empowering compassion and understanding. The mental health component of the program, the Safety Net Project, provides specialized support for families experiencing stresses beyond the parent's or child's ability to manage well. For information about PEAK, please contact Program Director Kelly Lee at (603) 422-8223. |
